Long-serving West Lothian Foodbank charity shop volunteer Christine Bearman has received a special Volunteer Award from The Centre, Livingston, following her nomination by Kathleen Neilly in recognition of her outstanding dedication and commitment to the charity.

The Volunteer Award is part of the shopping centre’s ‘Support in the Community’ initiative, celebrating local heroes for more than a decade by recognising those who give their time and kindness to make a difference, with a personalised framed certificate and £100 Gift Card as a special thank you.

In recognition of the invaluable contribution Christine has made to West Lothian Foodbank over the past eight years, consistently going above and beyond to support the charity shop, she was recently invited in to the shopping centre to collect her Volunteer Award. From sorting donations to lending a hand wherever she’s needed, Christine approaches every task with enthusiasm and a very big smile. Her positive attitude and reliability have made a lasting impression on fellow volunteers, customers and everyone who visits the shop.

Kathleen Neilly, CEO at West Lothian Foodbank, said: “We are delighted to recognise Christine, one of our fantastic long-serving volunteers, with this special award. Christine consistently goes above and beyond, always bringing kindness, positivity and a smile to everything she does. She is a truly deserving recipient and an important part of our foodbank family. Our volunteers are our lifeline. Without their dedication, we could not provide the vital support we offer to people across West Lothian during difficult times. They walk alongside those we support with compassion, encouragement and comforting words. We wish we could give this award to every one of our incredible volunteers. Each person gives their time, energy and heart to helping others, and we are incredibly grateful for everything they do. Congratulations, Christine, and thank you for everything you do!

Christine said: “I was so shocked to be nominated for this award, and when I was told that I had won, I honestly couldn’t believe it. I don’t volunteer for recognition. I just try to do my best and help the foodbank support others in our community. It means so much to me to be part of such a wonderful team, and I’m very grateful for this award. Thank you so much.”

Patrick Robbertze, Centre Director at The Centre, Livingston, said: “We were delighted to present Christine with our Volunteer Award and a £100 Gift Card to treat herself in recognition of the outstanding commitment she has shown to West Lothian Foodbank over the years. Volunteers like Christine play such an important role in supporting local charities and communities, giving their time so generously and making a genuine difference to others. If you know someone who deserves to be rewarded for their contribution to the community, we’d love to hear from you – please send your nominations to [email protected].”
