As part of our 50th anniversary celebrations, The Centre, Livingston has officially buried a time capsule, giving the community of 2076 a historic look at what life was like right here in 2026.
We had some brilliant help from pupils across 9 primary schools in Livingston, who joined us to lower the capsule into the ground and contributed artwork, video messages, songs, and letters to the future. The capsule has now been safely buried in Phase 3 of The Centre, where it is due to be opened on 29 May 2076.

Along with the school contributions, we packed the capsule with a mix of everyday items, current technology, and bits of history from The Centre, Livingston itself.
Here is a full list of what we’ve included:
- Copies of The Scotsman and The Courier newspapers from 29 May 2026
- A £5 note and set of 2026 coins
- An iPhone 15
- The Centre, Livingston branded buff
- The Centre, Livingston 50th anniversary pin badge
- A Fanta can
- A Trendy Dumpling Reveal toy donated by The Entertainer
- Our 2026 Centre Photobook
- A map of the mall and photos of The Centre as it looks today
- The letters, video messages, songs, and artwork to the future from the 9 local primary schools in Livingston.

A big thank you again to all the teachers, pupils, and everyone from Riverside PS, Letham PS, Peel PS, Dedridge PS, St. Ninian’s PS, Howden St. Andrew’s PS, Williamston PS, Bankton PS, and Toronto PS who helped us put this together.
