Nurse Laura Marshall, who is mum to Connah, recently celebrated winning The Centre, Livingston Mother’s Day Makeover Competition, worth over £500, at the shopping centre with her twin sister, Louise who nominated her.
Following the announcement of the VIP pampering prize for a mum who is always looking after everyone else and deserves to be spoilt, the management team were inundated with lovely stories about lots of super mums, including Louise’s heart-warming entry about her twin sister –
“Laura is one of the strongest and most caring mums I know!
“The past year has brought its challenges for her, and she has had to carry a lot emotionally while still trying to be the best mum she can be every single day.
“She rarely takes time for herself and always puts others first. A day of pampering would mean so much to her and give her the chance to relax, feel appreciated, and have a moment just for herself. She truly deserves to feel special this Mother’s Day, and I can’t think of anyone who would appreciate this experience more.”
Louise was delighted to be able to get time off work to join her sister on her special day, which started with lunch at Las Iguanas. As it was Laura’s first time in the restaurant, the staff were more than happy to give her a run-down of the menu before she opted for a vegetarian curry with her sister going for her all-time favourite, sizzling chicken fajitas.
Next up was a VIP makeover, with a £150 Gift Card to spend with the local stylist and colour analysis expert Leigh Maybury, who helps women to create their own personal look which makes them feel comfortable and even more confident.
The first store they visited was River Island, where a navy-lined waistcoat caught Leigh’s eye, which really took Laura out of her comfort zone, as she normally likes to wear mostly activewear, as she is an avid runner and loves going to the gym, usually with her sister.
After trying it on, she fell in love with it and snapped it up, saying it would be ideal for her forthcoming trip to Dublin with her work colleagues. Leigh was keen to help Laura find trousers to match the waistcoat and headed into M&S for a pair of stunning jeans which fitted her perfectly. To her surprise she was also gifted a beautiful Library of Scent luxury home gift set from the team at M&S to add to her pamper day.
Laura also received even more fantastic gifts from various retailers on the day, including a stunning bracelet, earring and necklace from S&S Argento, a new scent, La Vie Est Belle L’Elixir from The Perfume Shop, a large Royal Tea scented candle from Rituals and a Sally Beauty goodie bag with shampoo, conditioner and oil. Laura was also treated to a beauty consultation at Boots, who gifted her with a surprise bag of goodies which contained everything, including an electric toothbrush, a Mac lip liner, a Benefit bronzer and blush palette and an Elemis gift set.
Laura was also pampered in Lush on the day with an arm massage and presented with a beautiful gift.
Louise said: “A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved at The Centre, Livingston for their hospitality and all the shops for their kindness and generosity. Your thoughtful gifts made my sister’s Mother’s Day truly special – we had such a lovely day out and really appreciate it.”

A huge thank you to all the amazing shops for the lovely gifts – you truly made the day extra special. And a special shoutout to Leigh the stylist for the thoughtful fashion advice and helping me find clothes that really complement my skin tone. I had the most wonderful day.”
