A new season beckons, bringing with it a host of fresh styles hot from the runways. Autumn may be synonymous with shorter days and cooler weather but it also allows us to start layering up, effortlessly giving outfits a more sartorial vibe.
At The Centre, Livingston the AW25 ranges have landed, with our fashion retailers offering an extensive choice of wardrobe additions, with options to suit all budgets. We’ve narrowed down some key trends which are sure to make an impact this season and beyond – including chocolate brown hues, faux fur, relaxed tailoring, animal print, maxi coats, slouchy bags and influences ranging from heritage to punk.
Animal prints are always an autumn winter staple with leopard print so ubiquitous that’s is classed as a neutral. This season however, core prints are joined by something a little more wild – think snake, Dalmatian, zebra, cow and crocodile.
At M&S you’ll find a cow print trucker jacket with a double-ended zip fastening that can be opened from the bottom for versatile wear. If you’re looking for a longline trench they also have a double-breasted trench coat, crafted from croc-textured fabric for a statement look.
Their collection also offers a more refined take on punk with faux leather embellished shift dresses, a faux leather studded Harrington jacket and studded flat pointed shoes in two key colourways – burgundy and black. At the other end of the spectrum their range includes tweed embellished mini skirts, relaxed Argyle jumpers and waxed look capes for a touch of heritage chic.
Another retailer who has embraced the heritage trend is New Look with autumnal paisley dresses, preppy checked coats, pussybow blouses and blazer and short co-ords.
Tailoring this season is less structured, with softer silhouettes and sumptuous fabrics. New Look’s faux suede bubble hem jacket is a great example, or why not opt for an elegant take on power dressing with their faux leather tan pleated midi skirt with matching waistcoat.
Faux fur and shearling accents have made their way from the runways to the high street and at New Look you’ll find a gorgeous collection of fun, playful cuts – from sheepskin-effect short jackets and faux shearling lined cropped aviator jackets, to belted longline coats with detachable faux fur collars.
Chocolate browns are big news this autumn, nowhere more so than at River Island where their latest offerings showcase rich comforting tones that are perfect for warming up your cold weather wardrobe. Appearing on everything from biker jackets to knitted dresses brown is the newest neutral that’s just as versatile as beige, cream, and camel.
The Olivia Attwood range at River Island has some stunning pieces to choose from, in shades of mocha, cocoa, dark caramel and mahogany, including pinstripe shorts with a matching cinched blazer, cut out rib midi dresses, faux leather ruched mini dresses, as well as waterfall and scarf coats.
The core AW25 range at River Island also includes a nod to the heritage trend with bouclé tailored shorts and a matching jacket, while nostalgic 90s silhouettes are reimagined with a rebellious twist as seasonal staples like chunky knits, flat boots and traditional trench coats are revamped with a defiant spirit. Expect bold tartan prints and Argyle patterns featuring statement studs and tough leather panels.
Over at Primark new season pieces have arrived and with The Edit range you can expect high quality fabrics and refined designs at the helm, such as cosy merino jumpers in rich brown and soft grey cashmere-blend knitted vests. Their delicate wool-blend sculpted cardigan in taupe is a fashion forward take on a staple.
The Rita Ora range at Primark is also one not to be missed with slogan tees, asymmetrical faux leather bombers, tartan kilt mini skirts and more. Forget cosy and minimal, this range offers romantic 90s grunge that’s sure to make a statement this season.
H&M’s autumn collection taps into two of AW25’s biggest moods, blending heritage patterns with Brit Pop attitude into pieces that feel fresh and easy-to-wear. We love their chocolate brown plaid trousers styled with sporty zip-up jackets and the must have accessory this season – an unstructured, huggable bag.
Choose from slouchy shoppers, buttery soft bucket bags, pouch-look crossbody bags or their stunning suedette triangular crossbody bag. Don’t forget to add a little drama with oversized faux fur bag charms for a playful, boho vibe.
