We are delighted to appoint Lothian Phoenix Wheelchair Basketball Club as our ‘Charity of the Month’ partner for October, which is part of our ‘Support in the Community’ initiative to help a different organisation every month.
The Club, which is based at Armadale Academy in West Lothian was founded in 2006 by Stevie Duff and a handful of dedicated players and volunteers, and some of the most experienced and dedicated wheelchair basketball coaching staff in Scotland.
Many of the coaches have experience in participating in highly competitive events for Juniors including the UK National Junior League, UK Junior National Championships, and the UK School Games.
Thanks to their decades of combined coaching knowledge and expertise, Lothian Phoenix has been the starting point for many national and international players, some who have gone on to play for Great Britain.
The club combines the best aspects of competitive and challenging training sessions along with a friendly and supportive atmosphere and always welcome new players, with and without disabilities, across all ages and levels of ability.
Celebrations have been taking place at the Club recently following various wins, including the under 18s and 14s teams who picked up medals at the National Junior Wheelchair Basketball Championships in Worcester in the summer.
As part of the charity partnership Lothian Phoenix Wheelchair Basketball Club received a £250 Gift Card donation and will also have a pop up in the shopping centre on the weekend of the 21st and 22nd of October, where shoppers can find out more about the club, watch demonstrations and try out some dribbling skills.
